📖 Story / Theme – Great Southern Land

Australia, known as the “Great Southern Land,” is surrounded by vast oceans spanning approximately 34,000 kilometres of coastline. From tropical reefs to the icy waters of the Southern Ocean, these marine environments sustain extraordinary biodiversity and some of the world’s most unique aquatic life.

This release celebrates the richness and beauty of Australia’s surrounding seas, paying tribute to the marine creatures and ecosystems that define the nation’s coastal identity.

🎨 Design Description

The reverse features a genuine mother of pearl insert shaped as the Australian continent, creating a luminous centrepiece symbolising the nation itself.

Encircling the insert are intricately detailed depictions of marine wildlife including a sea turtle, seahorse, blue-ringed octopus, clownfish, starfish, stingray, and great white shark, accompanied by marine plant elements that enhance the underwater theme.

Also included are inscriptions detailing the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date together with the special ‘P125’ mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.

The obverse displays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III and the monetary denomination, confirming its status as Australian legal tender.
