Struck from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver with antiqued and coloured finishes, this special release features original artwork by leading Western Australian Indigenous artist Kevin Bynder. The design portrays the kookaburra, known to Nyoongar people as ‘kaa kaa’, through culturally significant markings and colours.
Limited to only 2,000 coins, the release also features the special ‘P125’ mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
🎨 Design Description
The coin portrays a kookaburra featuring markings that symbolise white ochre, a natural earth pigment traditionally used by ancestors when painting themselves for the kookaburra Dreaming dance.
The background incorporates an intricate arrangement of coloured dots. Shades of blue represent the morning, daytime and evening skies, while green represents leaves during the Djeran season of April and May. Brown represents the Kambarang, Birak and Bunuru seasons from October through March.
The design also incorporates the 2024 year-date and a special ‘P125’ mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
