The wedge-tailed eagle is Australia’s largest bird of prey and among the world’s most formidable raptors. Recognised by its distinctive wedge-shaped tail, immense wingspan, and powerful hunting ability, it symbolises freedom, endurance, and dominance across Australia’s vast landscapes.

This two-coin collection celebrates the ongoing success of the Perth Mint’s Wedge-Tailed Eagle series, with each annual release offering a fresh interpretation of the majestic bird by acclaimed sculptor John M. Mercanti.

🎨 Design Description

The 2025 coin portrays a coloured wedge-tailed eagle with outstretched wings poised for flight, capturing the bird’s immense wingspan and readiness to soar. The design includes the inscription “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date.

The 2026 release features a detailed coloured close-up portrait emphasising the eagle’s piercing eyes, hooked beak, and layered feather textures, highlighting the predator’s strength and commanding presence.
