📖 Story / Theme – Mother-of-Pearl Clouds

Mother-of-Pearl clouds, also known as nacreous clouds, are a rare polar atmospheric phenomenon formed high above the Earth in extremely cold conditions.

As sunlight refracts through microscopic ice crystals, the clouds shimmer with iridescent colours including soft blues, pinks, greens, and golds — creating a breathtaking visual display resembling the lustre of genuine mother-of-pearl.

This coin pays tribute to the extraordinary beauty and rarity of these luminous polar skies.

🎨 Design Description

The reverse portrays two sea lions resting among icy glaciers and floating icebergs beneath radiant Mother-of-Pearl clouds glowing across the polar sky.

The vivid colour application recreates the shimmering pastel iridescence associated with nacreous clouds, bringing exceptional depth and atmosphere to the design.

Integrated within the artwork are the inscriptions “MOTHER-OF-PEARL” and “CLOUDS”, subtly incorporated into the scenic composition.
