2026 Perth Mint Quarter Sovereign Gold Proof Coin
91.67% Pure Gold | Proof Finish | Limited Mintage | Perth Mint Release
Sovereign Heritage
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint and played a vital role in producing sovereigns from Western Australian gold. Between 1899 and 1931, more than 106 million sovereigns were struck at the Mint, each carrying the famous St George and the Dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci alongside the iconic ‘P’ mintmark.
The enduring legend of St George symbolises courage, honour, and the triumph of good over evil. Over centuries, the heroic imagery became closely associated with knighthood, battlefield valour, and national pride — making sovereign coins among the most recognisable and historically significant gold issues ever produced.
This modern collectible continues that tradition through a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic design.
🎨 Design Description
The reverse portrays a dynamic naked warrior on horseback raising a sword above a defeated dragon in a powerful modern interpretation of the legendary St George imagery. The design is framed by a decorative circle of raised dots and includes the inscriptions “AUSTRALIA”, “2026”, and The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark.
Also featured is a special “100” privy mark commemorating what would have been the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The obverse design was created by Dan Thorne, while the reverse was designed by Jennifer McKenna.
