📖 Story / Theme – Service Amid Strife 1941
The year 1941 marked a critical period in Australia’s involvement in the Second World War.
Australian forces participated in demanding campaigns across North Africa, the Middle East, Greece, and Crete, while women’s auxiliary services began playing an increasingly important role in supporting the nation’s war effort.
The Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAF), Women’s Royal Australian Naval Service (WRANS), and Australian Women’s Army Service (AWAS) were all established during this period, helping shape the future role of women in Australia’s military services.
This commemorative collection honours the bravery, sacrifice, resilience, and service of Australians during these historic wartime campaigns and initiatives.
