Struck from 999 fine silver to Proof standard, the coin features bespoke artwork by Chris Costello depicting a modern interpretation of the sheep. The release combines ancient Chinese lunar tradition with contemporary British design, continuing The Royal Mint’s Lunar New Year series first introduced in 2014.
The 1oz Silver Proof edition has a Limited Edition Presentation of 3,288 and a Maximum Coin Mintage of 3,698.
🎨 Design Description
Designed by Chris Costello, the reverse presents a modern depiction of a sheep created especially for the 2027 Lunar Year release.
As shown on page 1 of The Royal Mint trade sheet, the sheep dominates the foreground of a detailed rural landscape. The design is accompanied by the inscription “YEAR OF THE SHEEP 2027” and the Chinese character for sheep.
